I have had it take anywhere from 3 to 10 days before changing the IP address
of a registered name server takes effect. I believe this is because the root
nameservers must be updated. They may each be updated at different times so
that both IP's will get resolution requests for a period of time.
Best if you have DNS Servers at both IP's (old and new) in service during
the transition.

If each domain has 2 nameservers under your control, you could update the
secondary to point to the new IP well in advance so that when you pull the
plug on the primary, resolution requests fail over to the new IP on the
secondary.

Subject: moving a domain with name server

Hello,
I am wanting to move one of my domains that has name servers running on
it...is the move the same process - or do I need to do anything special?
Begging your pardon if this question is asked frequently - I did search the
FAQ's/archives but came up with unrelated hits - probably didn't enter the
proper phrase...

Thanks,
Kevin
