Jim,

Since the registry is not realtime, we cannot query the registry's API
directly to determine availability of a domain.

I have discovered that .name's whois server is running; however, it's not
up to date.  ian.spencer.name shows up, but I checked a name that I tested
for the latest round that ISN'T showing up in the whois...

I'll see if we can hack something together around the whois; but given
that it seems to show incomplete information, it could be just as
unreliable as no information at all.
