Well it looks like the hijacking is
happening on this list!
As mentioned this is a non-issue to most
but it sure seems to be filling up my inbox!
Lets get serious here the issue
is important but " rarely" anyone expecting to have 24 hour
support for this is reaching for straws!
Who funds it?
The usual cause of thief of
anything on the internet is....... clients not using good security methods i.e.:
using unsecured usernames /passwords and we all know it! Real "Hacks" are rare
and to a truly good hacker no one can stop them!
Although the internet does run
24 hours most businesses do not and as mentioned by several there are rules/laws
about calling people after regular business hours. ITS ONLY US RUNNING
24 HOURS!!!! not the whole world.
The reason things like business
interruption insurance were invented is to cover these rare occurrences as this.
IF your site/domain has been compromised. Shut it down file a claim with
your insurance agent and get back to work. Get the appropriate folks on this
issue first thing.
Don't expect the world to stop
because your user gave up his password or had incredible insecure access set.
Its the clients problem not everyone's! That is why we all have those clauses in
our AUP etc to advise them to do things securely and to understand the blame can
not all be placed on us when they screw up! No one can safeguard from those
truly malicious internet users but they are few and far between and if you have
proper network detection software running they never get in with out you knowing
and hopefully shutting them down before damage is done. IF they get a hold of
your passwords as was mentioned happened here. well guess whose fault that is "
not mine"
If you cant afford the insurance
or competent personal running your enterprise get out!!! Its a normal cost of
business!
Let the professionals like those at TUCOWS do there
work with out all this BS!
