Hi Jeremy, > Olm.net is $59/month for a virtual dedicated server, and rackshack.net > is $99/month for a real live dedicated server. That's the cheapest I've > ever seen. >
I've heard of rackshack.net, and I've even spoken with them. When I asked about backups, they said they NOT offer any sort of backup regimen. Period. They pretty much took the "don't know; don't care" stance when I asked about any sort of solution for customers who wish to safeguard their data. It's this cavalier attitude towards service reliability and integrity that makes me want to avoid rackshack.net at all costs. If THEY are perfectly fine with the idea of MY customers getting burned when a drive fails, I certainly don't want THEM as my supplier! :-) RE: Virtual Dedicated Servers at Olm.net, et. al. What exactly *are* virtual dedicated servers? I've heard the term bandied about, but I've never quite fully understood what buying a VDS gets you. Is it just your own instance of Apache, or is it a real virtual machine ala http://vmware.com ? Thanks again, David
