Just wanted to offer up a quick post to address the issues some Resellers
have had with the shipping and handling costs associated with the free
HostingTech subscriptions, particularly for the Canadian and International
subscriptions....AND the subscriptions are still absolutely free for those
in
the USA!!
First and foremost, let me apologize to anyone who felt that our offer was
not sincere and that our motives were anything less than admirable. I
assure you that our objective was simply to alert Resellers to an offer we
feel has significant value to the many hosting providers in our channel.
And yes, we made a conscious decision to open this offer to ALL Resellers
rather than targeting it only to those who would NOT incur shipping
charges - in an attempt to provide equal access for all. We considered
the facts, and realized that many European and Asian subscribers are
accustomed to these sorts of charges when ordering publications with
distribution typically limited to the USA.
I've spoken directly with HostingTech regarding this issue and found:
1) The stated "shipping costs" include postage, customs and brokerage
fees, duty and the special handling required by the publisher and are
a direct reflection of their cost to deliver subscriptions to foreign
addresses.
2) Until recently, international subscribers represented a small percentage
of their subscribers and this issue was simply not a concern.
3) Partly because of your response to this offer, HostingTech is now
researching alternate solutions and anticipates implementing a new
shipping method into Canada no later than May 31, 2002 - this will
impact their pricing for foreign shipping. �For any price reductions,
HostingTech will apply credits, as appropriate, to foreign subscriber
accounts beginning with the July, 2002 issue.
We sincerely apologize to the few who didn't think the offer was
worthwhile and would like to encourage the hundreds (yes hundreds!)
who have already subscribed to watch for new Tucows ads in the
coming months!!
