Well, this is what I got from the registry:

There will be an announcement regarding the renewals and the Plug-in
software early next week.  Please check your email or the announcement
section of our website for more information.

SO I just don't know... I assume if they've got things closer to being
"figured out" you'll be able to renew/let expire.  Otherwise they'll add
another block of time to the domains and we'll see what happens in a few
months ;)
