When was the domain created? If it was deleted within 5 days of creation, it goes back into the pool immediately. Any other time there's a 5 day lag from when the deletion command is sent to the registry (and the domain goes on hold) and when the registry releases the domain.
Also, what were you using to determine the domain deletion (and availability?) If you pass me the domain offlist I can provide you more detailed information.
