I was doing some my research into this and found the following at the
.info registry. This information most likely does not apply at the
com/net/org registry. I have no clue what biz/us policy is.
According to .info they have two lock types, and they state you can NOT
renew a domain while it is in either lock state. I haven't confirmed
this, but its going to be a pain if what they say is really the case at
renewal time. We will probably need to issue an unlock command (if the
domain is locked) prior to a renew command to keep our customers happy.
Locked: The domain cannot be transferred, renewed, or deleted. (Though
the status value can be changed.) Hierarchical and associated objects
cannot be added or removed from the domain object. Domain names
registered during the Sunrise and Start-up ("Land Rush") Periods will be
locked for a period at the time of registration, subject to registry
policies.
clientLock: The domain cannot be transferred, renewed, deleted, or
updated. An update command may be used to change the status value.
Hierarchical and associated objects cannot not be added or removed
from the domain object.
