This message was recently posted on a domain name discussion board. I
thought that it deserved to be distributed here, in order to encourage
everyone to lock their domain names - or at a minimum, to make sure that
all your admin email contacts are valid.

Here's the technique:

------------------------------------

It seems a lot of domains have been 'stolen' recently.

Here's an explanation:

Recently, I formulated a technique to get hold of extremely valuable
domains.

What I did was this:

1. I ran a Word List of the 5,000 most valuable words/keywords in my
WHOIS software.
2. I parsed the email addresses from the WHOIS details.
3. I ran WHOIS searches on those parsed email addresses.
4. Those domains that were available, could be registered and therefore
be used to administer the previous domains.

I found a number of extremely valuable domains (including top 2 letter
ones) which had expired Admin contact domain names.
I was tempted to register some, so I could gain control when the
original domain expired, but I didn't want to risk any legal troubles.

I actually disclosed this technique in certain domain chat rooms and
forums. Perhaps a mistake?

Of course though, those with no conscience out there, did follow it, and
got control of the domains before they even expired. Therefore they
would be 'stolen' then.

Lock your domain. Take your keys. Be safe.
