Yes, BW Whois should handle that transiton smoothly. It looks for the "Whois Server:" string in the response to indicate that it's a "thin" server. So as soon as they stop sending that, it should just work like a normal whois server.
Of course, odds are that they'll do something entirely different and unexpected. ;^)
