I know Elliot already responded but I thought I would go into a little more of an in-depth explanation for anyone who is interested.
Our old procedures for deletions were a manual fax based request system where we reviewed each individually and the volume was very low. When asked if a reseller could delete names after checking traffic or the client "trying it on" so to speak we emphatically always said no, from our perspective that is not the spirit of what the deletion capability was intended to alleviate. This new tool was designed to provide a more hands-on and immediate approach for resellers when it came to issues surrounding clients of yours changing their minds, having payment issues, or miss-typing the purchase. With this tool you now have the ability to immediately correct the issue without having to go through any procedural hoops on our end. The new automated system in place today has a feature that checks the amount of deletions a reseller submits in comparison to the amount of registration years they submit for a particular month. If a reseller submits more than 1% of the registration years they are processing, then a flag goes off in our system notifying us of the issue. We are hoping that the $1 fee associated with a deletion would be a deterrent to use of this tool in any way other than what it's intention was meant to be, but we do understand that this will not always be the case. For those resellers who set off this flag in our system, we will initiate a contact to better understand what may be happening so that we can help them to avoid such numbers in the future. We do have the ability to turn off this tool for any reseller, but have yet to face a scenario where we have had to go to such an extreme. Peter Ejtel Sales Manager Tucows Inc. [EMAIL PROTECTED] -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Russ Goodwin Sent: Sunday, December 07, 2003 2:22 PM To: Discuss List Subject: Deletes... ugh. Hi all- We have a potential client who wants to be able to buy domains and delete some of them within the 5-day refund window. I know this used to be taboo at OpenSRS, but the addition of the "refund domain" feature in the RWI (with corresponding fee) makes me think it may not be... can anyone comment (either Tucows people or someone who's done it)? Have you received a C&D from Tucows for registering then deleting a ton of domains? I can't find an official policy statement about the feature anywhere (searched the discuss-list archives and the resellers site). If it's considered bad to do this at Tucows, can you share with me the name of another registrar who allows it? Thanks - I know this is/was a sensitive topic for some. -Russ
