You are correct, I was thinking of another similar registry bug that was
fixed on January, sorry about that. I have escalated our concerns regarding
this issue to the CTO of Afilias and expect to hear back from him soon.

Interestingly .org which is also run by Afilias does not suffer from this
bad behavior, nor do any of the other EPP registries. It's likely due to the
fact that the .info registry was based on a earlier draft of the EPP specs
(5/3 vs 7/5).

The light at the end of the tunnel is that the EPP registries are required
to move to EPP v1.0 very shortly, this would likely be resolved by then for
sure. Should the timelines around this be too long we will look at other
alternatives internally.

The ironic and maddening thing about this problem is that the registry has
no problem "auto-renewing" an expired .info name that is locked and dinging
us (Tucows) for the 45 grace renewal fee.
