You don't think it would be unseemly for Tucows to promote domain name

viewed this kind of customer as sort of like that odd uncle the family
doesn't like to talk about.)
Although the opensrs system faired OK in the earlier days, these days to be competitive, they would have to buy a whole bunch of registrar connections. Just using opensrs's ones would prove to be even less effective than Snap was in the last days prior to changing their grabbing model. :^)
