Y'know... this is totally irrelevant to the choice at hand. Neither nook nor Kindle require encumbered books. nook handles unencumbered ePub just fine, while Kindle does unencumbered Mobi books equally well. These are, in fact, the respective devices' native formats. Both are capable of displaying unencumbered PDFs.
