Only if you "jailbreak" the device. People publish guides, where they find an exploit to get root from the iOS kernel and make a simple procedure for other people to do the same. It will only work until a new software release is pushed out, and then you have to find a new way to do it again. Apple says it's illegal, other people who want to jailbreak the phones say it's not illegal.
