Log in via ssh or by switching to a text console, and look at ~/.xsession-errors and /var/log/Xorg.0.log... The answer will probably be in one of those, I guess the first. You might also try the logs in /var/log/gdm, if the other two spots turn up nothing. -- Derek D.
