Could you elaborate?  As somebody who is only passingly familiar with
this level of things, I'm curious to learn what makes LVM's snapshot so
terrible.


The idea is this: You use LVM to manage your physical storage. You create a logical volume for each logical grouping on a server. You expose the logical volume the ietd system to create an iSCSI device which can then be used by another machine as a block device.
