I've been happy with our Synology product -- a 5-bay DS508, purchased in January 2008, which is still running fine 24x7. It's never had a disk failure (using 1 GB Western Digital SATA disks), has crashed maybe twice in four years, and is quiet. The company also actively updates its software.
