I only caught the tail end of this part of the presentation and it made mention of mdadm RAID being obsoleted by RAID functionality built-in to LVM. The Wikipedia page, which may be obsolete, says: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logical_Volume_Manager_%28Linux%29 that LVM can do RAID 0 or 1, but nothing higher. The LVM2 wiki: http://sources.redhat.com/lvm2/wiki/ references "DMRAID" (although it links to the wrong page): http://sources.redhat.com/lvm2/wiki/DMRAID DMRAID seems to be about interoperating with proprietary software RAID solutions.
