As far as I know there is no "recommended desktop".
I have tested Cinnamon on Linux Mint 13, decided that
it is not stable enough for my taste and switched to
Linux Mint 13 Mate and it is rock solid so far.(6 weeks.)
What sort of stability problems?
Only used it about 24 hours. It was generally very slow.
Couple of odd behaviors.(windows disappearing, etc.)
decided it is not for me.
(It may improve in the future, maybe..)
