Do you have any reason to believe that DSL Extreme does not
offer service throughout most of the Boston metropolitan area?

That's precisely what I mean. Speakeasy and Covad, the last two major
residential DSL CLECs in eastern MA, don't exist any more. They merged with
MegaPath and dropped residential service.
