GPL distribution requirements are in effect regardless of modification. For example, if I compile GCC verbatim and give you a copy I am still required to provide you with the source code upon your request. I believe that pointing you to the gnu.org repository is sufficient to meet the spirit of the requirement even if it does not meet the letter.
