i've been have a lot of luck lately with pihole. gets rid of most ads. it has blacklists and whitelists. i have it running dhcp for my local lan as well as dns. $35 for a pi 3 b+ and it runs well. i point my dd-wrt to it for dns and shut off dd-wrt's dhcp server. except for the time it didn't survive a power outage here, it's been rock solid. i now have ups systems all over my house. wherever there's a router or infrastructure machines, there's a ups.
