Correct - I don't think anyone was suggesting that support for them be
*removed*. Someone had suggested only providing support for *improving*
the newer formats, which is what I disagree with. I do understand that
resources are limited so some bugs with older formats might go unfixed
if they require a lot of resources, but don't just unilaterally refuse
to even look at the bugs - let the devs decide which ones are easily
fixable or not.
Sorry. Thanks for setting this straight. Yes, it does sound that if a
dev were interested in fixing a bug it would be a bonus. I imagine that
there wouldn't be too many outstanding bugs to fix. If there were, for
examples, one week reserved to quash these bugs and all the devs helped
out, would that be enough to close them? It may be just as easy to fix
them altogether as a project and be done with it. I can of see this also
as time wasted as, if the old formats are imported but with a few
quirks, then I think most users would find it reasonable to rework them
under a new format. Makes for a good case for the open document formats!
I can think of my old Wordperfect files and the images not coming
through at all sometimes or grids or some old DbaseII files. But as long
as we can salvage the bulk of it is great.
