I agree it is better than the older name. Here in Brazil "OOo" is synonymous of "zZZ", which is an onomatopoeia meaning someone is sleeping. Also "OOo" can be used as an interjection meaning surprise, shock. That won't change change the fact that any developer reading a package named libobasis will think of a library called obasis. Or reading a package named libreoffice he would think of a library named reoffice - it's easier to live with libre, though. Indeed, most users won't ever bother with this naming convention.
