There are two issues to address here; 1 - tecnical 2 - marketing 1: Technical there is no reason to split LO in seperate products. I can't see the advantages. 2: From a marketing view there is an issue!! The marketing issue is mainly due to the ODF umbrella for ODT, ODS and ODP. This confuses potential new users. Due to the way MS Office works, they have a tool/fileformat concept. Word/DOC(x), Excell/XLS(x), PowerPoint/PPT. Marketing wize advocating Write/ODT, Calc/ODS, Impress/ODP would ease adaptation for a large group of potential users.
For example the Dutch governement has adopted the ODF standard, but involved users look for adviced open alternatives for DOC and find no alternative. The list of adviced open standards advices ODF no ODT! Consequently they tend to replace DOC with DOCX since they don't find an adviced DOC alternative. So the technical good reasons for ODF and LO as one tool as it is built backfire on the marketing because of a public learning curve gap.
