It is known that it is based on SVG (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalable_Vector_Graphics). Hereby also I propose to build whole graphics stack in LibreOffice solely onto SVG. Also Inkscape is free and open-source software and possible to look what and how they do.
