Thank you for sharing the background and history behind the |VclPtr<>| implementation. It must have been an enormous effort to maintain and migrate such a large and complex codebase — I can see now how challenging that was.

I’m really glad to learn about the historical context of these design decisions.
It helps me understand why things are the way they are today.

I used to think of legacy code as something “bad” by default,
but hearing the history makes me realize that many parts exist for good, practical reasons. It’s fascinating to see how much engineering wisdom and trade-offs are embedded in LibreOffice’s long development history.
