Subject: Novell-MS tie-up and document compatibility

I don't know what will come of this, and will tend to remain
skeptical for
now; but any sign that document compatibility between MS Office and
OpenOffice might improve is welcome.
From the FAQ:
"Document Format Compatibility. Microsoft and Novell have been
focusing on
ways to improve interoperability between office productivity
applications.
The two companies will now work together on ways for OpenOffice and
Microsoft
Office users to best share documents and both will take steps to make
translators available to improve interoperability between Open XML and
OpenDocument Formats."

OpenSUSE happens to be the distribution I'm currently using. It has
always
been Nihongo-friendly, thanks especially to the efforts of Mike
Fabian. More
on that in a later post.
