Hey Everyone,

I know this isn't a NYC-only list, but it looks like the nyc list
(http://freeculture.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/nyc) doesn't really
have too many subscribers yet. In any case, lots of people pass through
this town, and some of these events might be worth coming in for ;-)

I wanted to let people know about a new resource that will attempt to
track NYC events of relating to Communications studies

http://collectivecommunicationscampus.wordpress.com/

I think there is a great deal of overlap between these issues and the
freeculture movement and many of these events may be of interest to this
list. Also, any attempt to construct bridges between the NYC campuses
is very welcome.

Additionally, I wanted to make a plug for a new course being offered at
NYU by a new professor who some of you may already know:

http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/faculty_bios/view/Gabriella_Coleman

She is teaching an undergraduate class that is now open to the entire
university on the Impacts of Technology. "It is a course on the
co-construction of society and the technology and in the course of the
course we explore issues of the law, access, embodiment, gender, access
etc and we do spend a number of weeks on computers, hackers, games, free
software, and wikis."

I worked a bit with Biella this past year and she is a very smart and
energetic - I would definitely recommend checking her class out. Even if
you can't, keep an eye out for her, as I wouldn't be surprised is she
showed up at a freeculture event soon.

cheers,
/Jonah
