Congratulations isn't the half of it :)
I mentioned Diaspora casually to a few friends after kicking in, and
they all remembered the idea and are still talking about it. Craig
Andrews, who helped OLPC with community sitedesign 9 months ago and was
returning a loaner laptop to me in my office today (and is a status.net
hacker) mentioned he was headed to the FSF tonight to give his thoughts
on Diaspora. And I see a couple other private threads mentioning it
today, not just reposting news.
Now that's an auspicious way to start designing a social nework.
It's nice to see all this enthusiasm for Diaspora*.
I look forward to the group publishing some specs, getting community
feedback, and moving forward to code. Honestly, all the publicity before
any published work makes me a little scared; it reminds me of commercial
vaporware software, stuff that is widely discussed but never released, or
sometimes released half a decade behind schedule.
I know the Disapora * team will work on releasing things, which is great!
I'll be more enthusiastic when that happens. No need to assuage my fears
by email on a discussion list; I know you guys are going to do good work.
I'm excited to see it.
So for now, I'm hopeful and looking forward to the future!
