It exists in the sense that it is software that is written and open.  If
Usability is a difference between Diaspora and Appleseed, then Diaspora
could simply make Appleseed Usable.

They can even fork the code and run it on diaspora.com instead of
appleseed's site.  Starting a new network with a new domain name will also
solve the aversion people would have to a older low-population social
network.

Diaspora could get 50% of the way towards their goal tomorrow if they worked
from this codebase.
