quick question about copyright law and image embedding: say i want to include an image in my webpage. suppose it's an icon, but something pretty generic (so that we can avoid trademark considerations). suppose i saw it on someone else's site--the site of the person who made it.
am i correct in thinking that in terms of copyright and other related legal restrictions it's more "okay" for me to use the icon if i just source it in from the original author's server than if i host a copy on my own server? i'm guessing that the original author can have no copyright claim against me if i just source it in from her server because i haven't actually made a copy myself, and furthermore there's some degree of implicit attribution in the source code. Is this true? I'm also guessing that with a certain class of image she would have a trademark claim against me, but i'm not sure.... -- http://www.madebyparker.com _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] http://freeculture.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss FAQ: http://wiki.freeculture.org/Fc-discuss
