Hey all discussers,
I'm here to tell you that freeculture.org is no longer hosted in Japan on
my personal machine. It's hosted in Baltimore, MD, on a virtual machine
graciously donated by gandi.net.
Parker and I named the machine "floatingarm.freeculture.org" after a
modern variant on the trebuchet; more info at
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Trebuchet#Modern_recreational_use
. It's also evocative of the word "cloud", which is what Gandi calls their
virtual private server offering that they're donating to us.
The great thing about doing this move is that Gandi's services are likely
to be more reliable than mine -- *plus* now if the server gets wedged,
anyone with the right password (probably just the board plus some webteam
people, for now) can click 'Reboot' within gandi.net's web interface.
One sad note: I *might* have eaten some email list messages from today,
Jan 3. So if you suspect a message isn't in the lists, please re-send it.
