For goodness sake, put GIMP on there if it's not already. Also Inkscape. Getting Things Gnome with some of its plugins - eg the Remember the Milk plugin Hamster Time Tracker Gourmet Recipe Manager w/ plugins A podcast client, eg Gpodder Maybe throw some decent FLOSS games on there too - something more enticing than solitaire and tetris (although I can play tetris for days). For new users, maybe Wine? Would you want to put the compiz desktop cube stuff in by default?

We're going to try to include things from our classes, but there are lots of other useful packages that are more general - do you have any suggestions? Here's our list so far: DrJava (sucks, but is used for a class) OCaml (+ ledit ocaml, omake) Eclipse LaTeX, and some useful extra packages there (which ones?) Python (extra packages) qtoctave and regular command line octave vim and emacs extra packages git, svn mercurial MStt fonts libreoffice rather than openoffice -- Alec Story Cornell University Biological Sciences, Computer Science 2012 _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.freeculture.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss FAQ: http://wiki.freeculture.org/Fc-discuss
