FYI: FOCI is a workshop for "Free & Open Communications on the
Internet". It's 2013-08-13 in DC. Paper submissions are due
2013-05-06.
The 3rd USENIX Workshop on Free and Open Communications on the
Internet (FOCI '13) seeks to bring together researchers and
practitioners from technology, law, and policy who are working
on means to study, detect, or circumvent practices that inhibit
free and open communications on the Internet.
Internet communications drive political and social change around
the world. Governments and other actors seek to control,
monitor, and block Internet communications for a variety of
reasons, ranging from extending copyright law to suppressing
free speech and assembly. Methods for controlling what content
people post and view online are also multifarious. Whether it's
traffic throttling by ISPs or man-in-the-middle attacks by
countries seeking to identify those who are organizing protests,
threats to free and open communications on the Internet must be
addressed by the research community in an interdisciplinary way
that includes both policy and technology.

I'm on the Program Committee for FOCI = Free & Open Communications on the
Internet, per https://www.usenix.org/conference/foci13/call-for-papers ,
so let me encourage[*] you to consider submitting to it. As the chair
frames it:
We're hoping in particular that you could help us reach communities
that otherwise wouldn't know about FOCI, such as the Internet
measurement community. Also, we're hoping to get more participation
from USENIX Security regulars, so if you know of folks working on
man-in-the-middle/SSL, malware/RATs, authentication, etc., those
things could all fall under the umbrella of FOCI.
Deadline is May 6, and the event itself is co-located with USENIX Security
in August (Washington DC).
Vern
[*] That said, I'm also chairing the PC for LEET, per
https://www.usenix.org/conference/leet13/call-for-papers
and, well, it would be even cooler if you submit there :-).
And the deadline gives you TWO MORE DAYS!
