I disagree with this generalization. I think there are a great many jq-ers that don't fit this description. Of course Klaus comes to mind immediately - the King of unobtrusive js! But there are many others that believe, like you, that graceful degradation is a key factor in client side scripting. That's not to say that your concern is misplaced, I just think this list has its fair share of excellent coders that don't see nails everywhere.
