I use YUI's reset (or my own) to normalize padding and margins, so I don't have problems with <p>. But you're right. I should use a div.

Like that. If v-align is not defined, then it is top. But why <p> not <div>? <p> will add extra margins and mess up design.

The logic would probably go something like this:

 * wrapInner the cell in a <p>
 * Test the height of the p
 * Test the height of the cell
 * Check the vertical-align of the cell
 * If the v-align is middle, give the <p> margin-top of half the difference in height
 * If the v-align is bottom, give the <p> margin-top of the difference in height

Did I miss anything?

At least in Firefox, I can't get the clientHeight of a text node.

I would try to find proper cell, then to read heigh of cell, then to find height of text (element) with clientHeight. If I can not read height of text it self, I'll wrap that text with div, and then read the height of that div.

Dave,

Thanks! Unfortunately, I need to fix the problem sometime today :(

Hopefully I will be able to replace whatever hackery I come up with with your reworked corner plugin :-D

Gee, when I started reading that I knew it sounded like a familiar problem.
:)

I am planning to work on the rounded corner plugin to fix the explicitly-set
height issue, maybe that will address it for table elements as well.
