Why is it that you don't "feel right"? I know Perl-ites tend to trot out 
Amazon, IMDB, LiveJournal, Slashdot and so on as examples of Perl users, 
but sites like del.icio.us, IUseThis, Vox and so on show that it's still 
alive and well as a web development platform today. Especially with 
frameworks like Catalyst (http://catalyst.perl.org/), "agile 
development" is certainly a very real possibility.

If the OP is used to programming in Java, the Perl-mindset is probably a 
bit of a switch. I agree that something like CF or RoR might suit him 
better.
