Hi,

i've updated jCarousel again to accept a new option "itemStart".
So, just do:

function itemFirstInHandler(carousel, li, idx, state)
{
    $.cookie('map', idx);
};

jQuery(document).ready(function() {
    jQuery('#mycarousel').jcarousel({
        itemStart: $.cookie('map'),
        itemFirstInHandler: itemFirstInHandler
    })
});

jCarousel takes care of validating itemStart to be not null and >= 1.
