After hours of investigations and slimming down the code to its essential, I
figured out the culpid is NOT jQuery. It happened that at the same time of
adding jQuery.js to my project I also updated a version of coolJsMenu
(javascript menu manager). By reverting to its previous version, the issue
is gone.

JQuery is great and I am sorry for all the hassle.
Thanks for your time guys and continue the good work.

BTW, do you know of any jQuery like replacement for coolJsMenu ?
