TheCounter.com says 12%, but still far lower than what would be considered
penetration of any sort.

Oh well, just wanted to point out the option.

If IE6 would support more than it does the weight of styling pages in
javascript would be a lot less. IE6 doesn't support selectors. IE7 picked it
up but the latest browser statistics i saw IE7 was used by 7 and an odd
percent.
