that's a beautiful piece of jQuery code! It does the job, it's short, and it just works! I look forward to using it!
I did notice a few thing though, in the case of a degenerate this.length == 0, you break the chain. you can get the nodeName, so you shouldn't have to pass it you have different post & get attibutes,where 1 would do,I'd rather pass in the type myself.
