I've made it so that the search kicks in 250 miliseconds after the _last_ keypress, so not a set time after the first, but a set time after the last. This means that I store a window.SetTimeout on a variable, that I then clear on each keydown. This allows the user to type to his hearts desire, stop and see what happens.
