Hi again,
my bad, was getting frustrated with it. I spoke to my brother and
managed to work out that it was hanging on the rel selector because IE
creates random shortcuts to ID'd elements. I changed div#gallery to
something different and now it works.
Thanks if you spent any time looking at the problem, appreciate it.
