That might have been it!
In /etc/postfix/main.cf for myhostname I had borg.org. I changed it to
mail.borg,org and a test e-mail does not promptly bounce.
On mail2.borg.org I make a matching change and, alas, I still have
problems, but they seem to be blacking-listing my IP address in that
case (I have requested they lift it...).
