After powering on the system for the first time each day, I login and
the MATE desktop appears. The three referenced system icons appear on
the desktop, but only during the first MATE session daily.
If I then log out of MATE, or reboot the computer for any reason
(kernel upgrade or otherwise), then log back into MATE a second time
or additional times - the same day, those three icons are gone.
So the first login after a boot sees the icons, subsequent logins do not.
The next day, the system is powered on, login into MATE and those
three icons are back.
"the system is powered on". Um, is still powered on? Or is powered on
after being shutdown?
