Hi everyone,

During our Top 10 FAIR Data Things Sprint today, one of our sprinters asked if
I can forward this hackathon invitation on to The Carpentries community, to
anyone who might be interested in joining. Please respond to Natalie if you are!

Dear Chris,

You are invited to participate in an NSF-sponsored workshop entitled the “MPS
Fair Hackathon”.

The workshop will be facilitated by several experts on FAIR principles and
related software and data tools that aim to make research objects more
findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable.

The workshop will be held February 27th and 28th, 2019 at the Westin
Alexandria, Courthouse Square

 Alexandria, Virginia (Washington DC Area).

The workshop website along with a registration link and more details can be
found here: https://mpsfair.crc.nd.edu/index.php

The workshop will simultaneously focus narrowly on
domain
- or discipline-specific challenges facing individual researchers in FAIRifying
their software or data while exploring opportunities for interdisciplinary
synergies. It will bring together researchers from three different MPS science
areas: Experimental High Energy Physics, Chemistry, and Materials Science. The
last category will have representatives from the light source and neutron
science communities, as well as “bench top” scientists, effectively creating
four working groups. Participants
are  invited
to register and assemble as duos or trios with 1-2 colleagues (ideally
researchers and/or students along with a data scientist and/or research data
librarian from his/her organization or disciplinary society) and to have access
to a dataset or software that they wish to make FAIR.

Travel support is available to cover most, if not all, of your expenses.

Please visit the hackathon website
<https://nd-dot-yamm-track.appspot.com/Redirect?ukey=1iDNk6AvGKxuoX-f48TmhMcjYuRYprm3MNjFcXosxy2M-0&key=YAMMID-46018462&link=https%3A%2F%2Fmpsfair.crc.nd.edu%2Findex.php>
and register as soon as possible if you're interested (or share this
opportunity with other carpentries community members if you’ll be unable to
attend
) .

Please email us if you have questions about the workshop.

We hope to see you in February!

Best wishes,

Mike Hildreth & Natalie Meyers
