I totally agree that an understanding of environments is vital for anyone who would like to make their code as reproducible as possible. I'm just very cautious about adding to the cognitive load of learners that are total beginners during a two-day workshop. But we're going to give a "Python 102" session tomorrow after our workshop this weekend, based on https://python-102.readthedocs.io (which I found via https://merely-useful.github.io/rse/rse-package-py.html) We will need to explain environments, so we will definitely make use of your conda lessons there.
