Hi Sumana, If you've got any idea at all I'd strongly encourage you to submit it, SciPy is a great, small-ish conference for giving a talk. I particularly enjoy talks in the vein of "I wanted to do a thing in Python and here's what I learned from doing that". All that said, the conference chair tells me there aren't yet submissions in the Astronomy, Biology, or Materials Science categories.
